Covid 19 : Two more deaths, 56 new cases in Gujarat, total number crosses 700

Gandhinagar, Apr 15 : Gujarat has reported two more deaths and 56 new cases of Novel Coronav infection in last 12 hours taking the overall number of positive cases in the western state to 704 including the 30 deaths and 59 recoveries so far.

No new recovery has been reported while the deadly virus has also marked its presence in two more districts; Botad and Kheda during the last 12 horus. With this 22 of the total 33 districts have now reported positive cases.

A 14-year-old girl died in Vadodara, while a 45-year-old woman with the co-morbidity of hypertension died in Surat. .

Ahmedabad with 42 more new cases has a total of the maximum 415 reported positive cases including the 13 deaths and as many recoveries so far. All the new cases were locals. Of the remaining cases, 6 were in Surat, 3 each in Vadodara and Panchmahal and one each in Kheda and Botad.

Of the 615 active cases 8 are on ventilators and remaining 607 were stable.

Principal Secretary Health, Mrs Jayanti Ravi said that so far a total of 17334 tests including 2354 in the last 24 hours have been conducted.

Notably the first case of the Covid19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where 5 deaths have been reported so far. Ahmedabad has seen 13 deaths, Bhavnagar 3, Vadodara 5 and one each from Panchmahal,Patan, Jamnagar and Gandhinagar. Among the deceased were 8 women and in all 12 senior citizens.

Gandhinagar has now in all 16 cases (including 8 recoveries, one death), Vadodara 116 (7 recovered, 5 dead), Rajkot 18 ( 8 recoveries), Surat has 48 ( 5 dead, 8 recovered), Bhavnagar 26 (3 deaths, 7 recovered), Patan 14 (1 death, 4 recoveries), Bharuch 11 , Anand 10, Panchmahal (one dead) and Chhota Udepur 5 each, Kutch and Mahesana 4 each, Porbandar 3 ( all 3 recovered) and Gir Somnath (one recovered), Dahod and Banaskantha 2 each and one each in Morbi, Jamnagar, Sabarkantha , Botad and Kheda districts.

As many as 15147 people across the state are under the 14 day quarantine. Of the total positive cases 33 had returned from abroad, 34 have travel history inside the country while the remaining 637 were locals without any out of station travel history.

She said that in the wake of the increasing number of cases a total of 28 clusters across the state including the maximum 14 of Ahmedabad city, 7 in Rajkot, 3 in Bhavnagar and 2 each in Surat and Vadodara have been put under complete lockdown for cluster quarantine.

Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in parts of Ahmedabad city from today till April 21. These areas of old city were the most affected ones.(UNI)
