Covid19 cases cross 600-mark in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Apr 14 : Gujarat on Tuesday surpassed the 600-mark in the number of novel coronavirus infections as 45 new cases were reported in last 12 hours, including 31 alone in Ahmedabad.

The current number of infections have now risen to 617 including 26 deaths and 55 recoveries. So far, 20 of the total 33 districts in the state, have COVID-19 patients. Now, Ahmedabad, seemingly a hotspot of the infection in the state, with 31 more cases, has a total of the maximum 351 positive cases including 13 deaths and 12 recoveries so far. All the new cases were locals. Of the remaining cases, detected in past 12 hours, nine were from Surat, two in Mahesana and one each in Bhavnagar, Dahod and Gandhinagar. Of the 536 active cases 9 are on ventilator and remaining 527 were stable.

Principal Secretary Health Jayanti Ravi said that so far a total of 14890 tests have been conducted. Notably the first case of the COVID-19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where 4 deaths have been reported so far. Ahmedabad has seen 13 deaths, Bhavnagar 2, Vadodara 3 and one each from Panchmahal, Patan, Jamnagar and Gandhinagar. Among the deceased were 6 women and in all 12 senior citizens. Gandhinagar has now in all 16 cases (including 8 recoveries, one death), Vadodara 107 (7 recovered, 3 dead), Rajkot 18 (8 recoveries), Surat has 42 (4 dead, 7 recovered), Bhavnagar 24 (two deaths, 5 recovered), Patan 14 (1 death, 4 recoveries), Bharuch 11 , Anand 9, Kutch and Mahesana 4 each, Porbandar ( all 3 recovered) and Chhota Udepur 3 each Gir Somnath (one recovered), Dahod Mahesana, Panchmahal (one dead) and Banaskantha 2 each and one each in Morbi, Jamnagar, and Sabarkantha districts.

13751 people across the state are under the 14-day quarantine period. Of the total positive cases 33 had returned from abroad, 34 had travel history inside the country while the remaining 550 were locals without any out of station travel history. The Principal Secretary said that in the wake of the increasing number of cases a total of 28 clusters across the state including the maximum 14 in Ahmedabad city, 7 in Rajkot, 3 in Bhavnagar and 2 each in Surat and Vadodara have been put under complete lockdown .
