Covid: Gujarat records one more death, 25 new cases; tally inches to 500

Gandhinagar, Apr 12: Gujarat recorded one more death and 25 new Covid cases in last 12 hours, taking the total number of cases to 493 while casualties to 23, an official informed here on Sunday.

The latest casualty is of a 75-year-old male in Ahmedabad, with co-morbidity and hypertension. Out of the 25 fresh cases, 23 appeared in Ahmedabad city alone while the remaining two from in Anand. All 25 new cases were local with no travel history, Principal Secretary Health Jayanti Ravi said. Of the 426 active cases, four are on ventilators while remaining 422 stable, Ms Ravi said.

So far, Ahmedabad is worst affected in the state with 266 cases and 11 deaths. Till Sunday, Gandhinagar has 15 cases with one death, Vadodara 95 with two deaths, Rajkot 18, Surat 28 with four deaths, Bhavnagar 23 with two deaths, Patan 14 with one death, Bharuch eight, Anand five, Kutch four, Porbandar and Chhota Udepur three each, Gir Somnath and Mahesana two each while one each in Morbi, Jamnagar, Panchmahal (one death) and Dahod and Sabarkantha districts.

Ms Ravi said that in the wake of rising number of cases, a total of 22 clusters across the state including 14 in Ahmedabad city and two each in Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Surat and Vadodara, have been put under complete lockdown. Nineteen of the total 33 districts in the state have reported positive cases so far. The first case of the Covid-19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death reported on March 22. As many as 15,561 people across the state are under the 14-day quarantine. Of the total positive cases, 33 returned from abroad, 32 have outstation travel history while the remaining 428 locals without any travel history.Ms Ravi said that so far a total of 10,994 tests, including the 1,231 in the last 12 hours. have been conducted.
