Coronavirus: 19 more test +ve, case tally 165

Gandhinagar, Apr 7: Gujarat reported 19 new cases of novel coronavirus infection in the last 12 hours, taking the tally to 165, including 12 deaths and 23 recoveries.

Of the total 19 new cases, 13 were reported from Ahmedabad, taking the total to 77, including 7 recoveries and five deaths. During the last 12 hours, one more patient has recovered in Rajkot. Three new cases have been reported from Patan district while Bhavnagar, Anand and Sabarkantha reported one each.

All the 19 new cases were locals without any travel history. Principal Secretary Health Jayanti Ravi said that of the 130 active cases, four were on ventilators while the remaining 126 were stable. So far, a total of 3040 tests including 161 in the last 24 hours have been conducted. Notably, the first case of the Covid-19 infection was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where two deaths have been reported so far.

Ahmedabad has seen 5 deaths and two have been reported from Bhavnagar and as many from Vadodara and one from Panchmahal. Among the deceased were 6 women and as many senior citizens. Gandhinagar has in all 13 cases (including 3 recoveries), Vadodara 12 (3 recovered, 2 dead), Rajkot 10 (3 recoveries), Surat 19 (two dead, 5 recovered), Bhavnagar 14 (two deaths), Patan 5, Porbandar 3, Gir Somnath, Mahesana, and Kutch 2 each and one each in Morbi, Jamnagar, Panchmahal (one death) and Chhota Udepur, Anand and Sabarkantha districts.

As many as 11,286 people across the state are under the 14-day quarantine. Of the total positive cases, 33 had returned from abroad, 32 have travel history inside the country while the remaining 100 were locals without any out of station travel history. She said that in the wake of the increasing number of cases in Danilimda, Bapunagar, Rakhiyal, Hirabag, Ambawadi, Jamalpur, Dariyapur etc in the Ahmedabad city, a survey of over 14000 people in those areas was being done.
