Gandhinagar, Apr 6 : Gujarat has reported 16 new cases of the novel coronavirus or COVID- 19 infections in last 24 hours taking the overall positive cases to 144, including 11 deaths and with 21 recoveries so far. Eleven of the 16 new cases are from Ahmedabad where the largest number of infection cases i e 64 have surfaced with five deaths.
Principal Secretary Health Jayanti Ravi said that so far 11 infection cases have been reported from the state capital, two in Vadodara with one each in Surat, Patan and Mahesana districts. Nine of the COVID-19 patients had travel history within the country. So far a total of 2,714 tests, including 146 in the last 24 hours have been conducted. Of the 112 active cases, two were critical and one critical while other 110 were stable. Notably, the first case of the Covid-19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where two deaths have been reported so far. Ahmedabad has seen five deaths-- two have been reported from Bhavnagar and one each in Vadodara and Panchmahal. Among the deceased were five women and as many senior citizens.
Gandhinagar has in all 13 cases (including three recoveries), Vadodara 12 (three recovered, one dead), Rajkot 10 ( three recoveries), Surat 17 (two dead, five recovered), Bhavnagar 13 (two deaths), Porbandar three, Gir Somnath, Mahesana, Patan and Kutch two each and one each in Morbi, Jamnagar, Panchmahal (one death) and Chhota Udepur districts. 14,056 people across the state are under the 14-day quarantine. Of the total positive cases 33 had returned from abroad, 24 had travel history inside the country while 87 were locals without any out of station travel history. (UNI)
