Covid-19: Gujarat records one more death, 14 new cases

Gandhinagar, Apr 5: Gujarat reported one more coronavirus death and 14 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11 while the total number of cases to 122 in the state, Health Official informed here on Sunday.

The latest casualty is of a 61-year-old woman with co-morbidity diabetes, who died in Surat on Sunday, Principal Secretary Health, Ms Jayanti Ravi said.

Ms Ravi said that of the 14 fresh cases, eight have surfaced in Ahmedabad, two each in Surat and Bhavnagar and one each in Vadodara and Chhota Udepur. Of the new cases, five people, all from Ahmedabad, had visited Delhi before lockdown. Chhota Udepur recorded its first cases.

Statewise, Gandhinagar has in all 13 cases ( three recoveries), Vadodara 10 ( three recoveries, one dead), Rajkot 10 ( three recoveries), Surat 15 (two dead, two recoveries), Bhavnagar 11 (two deaths), Porbandar three, Gir Somnath two and one each in Mahesana, Kutch and Panchmahal (one death), Patan and Chhota Udepur districts.

The first case of the Covid-19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death occurred on March 22 in Surat.

All the 94 active cases are stable with no one on ventilator, Principal Secretary Health informed.

Of the total positive cases, 33 returned from abroad, 15 having out of Gujarat travel history while 74 are locals without any travel history.

So far, as many as 17 people have recovered from the infection.

As many as 14,320 people across the state are under 14-day quarantine while 2,354 tests have been conducted. (UNI)
