Agency News

Junagadh, Apr 4: An Asiatic lion died of suspected snake bite in the Gir-east forests in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat on Saturday, a forest official said.

Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) D T Vasavada said the body of around 14-year-old lion was found from the Gir sanctuary area from Savajiyu Neru under Jasadhar range and Bhimchas beat of the forests. ''Deputy Conservator of Forests, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Range Forest Officer, veterinary doctor and field staff of the forest department observed the body and scanned the surrounding area but nothing suspicious was found,'' Mr Vasavada said. The cause of death seems to be snake bite on nose and internal bleeding i.e. hemorrhage, he said. (UNI)
