Ahmedabad, Feb 23 : A high-level delegation from the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES), Lucknow, on Sunday visited Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, as part of their tour from February 21 to 23 to study the best practices and various aspects of Smart City, which may be adopted in the smart cities of Uttar Pradesh, in future.
The delegation visited Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Smart City ICCC Control Rooms, including the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT). Talking to newspersons here, the delegation, headed by RCUES Additional Director AK Gupta and it's Urban Planner Priyanka Kumar, said the objective of the three-day visit was to observe and analyse the best practices of ICT in these cities and how the same can be implemented in smart cities of UP.
Uttar Pradesh has been developing 10 smart cities, funded by the Central government, under the Smart City Mission and seven smart cities under the state-led fund. The team appreciated the various unique initiatives taken by Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar administration for ICCC solutions like solid waste management, smart poles, digital display, various mobile apps, general surveillance, intelligent traffic management system and machinebased deep learning analytics. The best part found by the team was the Secura make Local processing units used in ITMS solutions to send relevant data to the CR.
Some of the Secura applications under general surveillance like spitting while driving, No Helmet and No Hawking Zone was very much appreciated by the team. They also understood the challenges of greenfield development and brownfield development.
RCUES was established at the University of Lucknow in 1968 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (earlier referred as Ministry of Urban Development), Government of India. The key activities of RCUES include Training, Capacity building, Research, Teaching, Consultancy Services and dissemination of information relating to the Urban Sector in various states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, UP, MP, Bihar, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.
