Surendranagar, Jan 13 : Four under-trial prisoners, including a person arrested on the charges of murder, escaped from a sub-jail here, in the wee hours of Monday, police said. According to Deputy SP D V Basiya, the jail break took place between 1am and 1.30 am, when the four under-trials, who were lodged in the same cell of the sub-jail in Limbadi town of the district, cut open the lock of their cell door and then later jumped over the outer wall and made good their escape under the cover of darkness.
''Of the four escapees', one was a murder accused, the second had been arrested for attempt to murder, third one was accused of robbery, while the fourth one was arrested under charges of abatement of suicide of his wife.
"There were a total of around 59 prisoners in the sub-jail, where these four undertrials had been lodged and it is located close to a residential area. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the absconders and we hope to arrest all of them very soon". Mr Basiya said the investigations would also be carried out as to whether the four escapees had any kind of assistance by any of the guards or any other official. (UNI)
