Police fire tear gas shells on protesting factory workers after death of colleague

Surat, Jul 12 : Police had to resort to mild baton charge and firing of tear gas shells in Pandesara area of the city on Friday to control the agitating factory workers protesting the death of a colleague.

According to police, Dayaram P Goda (50), a native of Odisha who worked in the factory in Hari Om Nagar, died of electrocution. At this, other workers started demonstration demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family members of the deceased. They also attacked the vehicle in which the body was being carried.

Police were called which had to fire tear gas shells and baton charge to disperse the mob. The situation was tense yet under control.

The body has been sent for post-mortem. (UNI)
