Gandhinagar, Jun 29 : The Gujarat government on Saturday announced to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) of over nine lakh employees and pensioners by three per cent, taking it to 12 per cent from the existing nine per cent with the retrospective effect of January 1, 2019.
Addressing a press conference here by Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Finance Minister of the state Nitin Patel informed this. He said that the related arrears would be paid to the employees and pensioners with July salary.
The government has also decided to equate the salaries and other allowances of its around 6 to 7 thousand contract-based teachers and other teaching staff of government-funded schools with that of the permanent government school teachers with effect from April 1, 2019.
Mr Patel said that by increasing the DA the state exchequer would incur an extra financial burden of Rs 1,071 crore per year.
Mr Patel added that the Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools Teachers Association was demanding the permanent status for government-aided school teachers and the government has fulfilled it. (UNI)
