Rajkot, May 1: In a significant development, Congress leader and former convener of Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) Hardik Patel here on Wednesday announced that his quota stir for Patidar community was now over as the central government has provided 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in non-reserved category.
Talking to mediapersons here after participating in a meeting of the Patidar community, Mr Patel said, “after 10% quota (to EWS), there was no point in continuing the agitation. If I continue with that, it would be termed as politics and selfishness. It is over now.”
However, PAAS leader Dharmik Malviya, said the agitation for quota was over, but the issue of withdrawal of cases during agitation still alive.
Earlier, president of Khodaldham trust (religious trust of Patidar community) Naresh Patel, has also announced the same. Naresh has also said that Hardik decision to join Congress was a personal one.
The meeting, held here at Sardar Patel Bhavan, was for release jailed PAAS convener Alpesh Kathiria.
Kathiria, crowned as the new PAAS convener in December last year soon after his release from jail in Surat, was re-arrested in February this year following cancellation of his bail in sedition case. UNI
