Ahmedabad, Mar 25 : The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Gujarat president Jayant Patel on Monday said his party might field candidates on all the 26 Lok Shabha (LS) seats in the general elections.
Mr Patel, also known as Boski, said so far, no decision has been taken on pre-poll alliance with the Congress. So, the NCP would perhaps field its candidates on all the LS seats in the state.
Notably, the NCP has been contesting polls in Gujarat in alliance with Congress since long. Even during the last Assembly and Parliamentary elections, the two parties fought the polls in alliance.
This time, the alliance seems highly unlikely. The party sources say that the grand-old party, which was initially willing to go for the pact with NCP in Gujarat, is now reluctant citing induction of the former state CM Shankersinh Vaghela in the NCP.
Mr Vaghela had deserted Congress in 2017 and he also voted against the party candidate, Ahmed Patel for the Rajya Sabha elections.
On January 29, 2019, the former state chief minister Vaghela joined the NCP in presence of party president Sharad Pawar and general secretary Praful Patel. He was made the national general secretary of the party.
