Panaji, Apr 19 : The Congress in Goa on Sunday urged the Panaji Commissioner to keep Kabrastan open for the people to perform last rites without any difficulties.

In a statement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Spokesperson Urfan Mulla said Goa Pradesh Congress Goa Pradesh Congress requests Panjim Commissioner to immediately intervene to keep the Kabrastan open for the people to perform the rites without any difficulties.

Mr Mulla accused local MLA of interfering in the issue and indulging in 'cheap' politics. 'From the last 30 years in Panjim the same kabrastan is there. Ex Defence Minister of the country and Ex CM of Goa who was also an MLA of Panaji Constituency late Manohar Parikar never ever did any such kind of cheap politics by locking the Kabrastan. The Panaji Mayor is publicly proclaiming that he has done the same under the directions of his boss Babush.

Why is the MLA interfering in religious matters illegally using his powers through his officials,' he said. 'The person who won the seat in the name of secularism on Congress ticket and promised that within 100 days all casinos would be removed out of Mandovi has now put the issue in RIP and started this type politics using his Municipality officials,' he alleged 'We request Commissioner to immediately resolve the matter which is hurting the religious sentiment done by the Mayor. Congress also appeals to the people of Goa to obey the government orders and not to make any gathering at any religious places,' he said. (UNI)
