3 persons quarantined in Goa for suspected Coronavirus

Panaji, Feb 4: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday informed State Assembly that three persons have been quarantined at Government Medical College and Hospital as a suspected case for Cornaviurs while blood samples of five persons have been sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, for testing.

Replying to a calling attention motion, he said out of the five blood samples, two turned out to be negative while results of three samples were awaited. He said there were 14 persons who had traveled to China from the state. Mr Rane said situation of nCoV outbreak at China and preparedness in the the state was monitored by task force committee under the chairmanship of Health Secretary.

''Surveillance on travelers from China is monitored on the daily basis by Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, Directorate of Health Services (DHS). All the asymptomatic travelers from China are asked to be in Home isolation for 28 days following arrival in India. All these travelers are followed up on daily basis to check for any symptoms suggestive of nCoV for 28 days by telephonic interviews. All the asymptomatic travelers from Wuhan City China will be directly isolated at isolation facility identified at Sub District Hospital, Chicalim. Any of these travelers found to be symptomatic are isolated at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, and samples are sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune,'' he said.

The Health Minister said orders had been issued by Tourism Department to all hotels in the state to share information of travelers arriving from China and staying in hotels to DHS. Daily reporting of the situation was being sent to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, he added.

Mr Rane said screening of passengers had been started by setting up Health Help Desk at International as well as Domestic arrival terminal of Goa International Airport, Dabolim and orders had been issued by Captain of Port to all shipping agencies regarding surveillance of nCoV at Panaji Port. Sinages on Novel Coronavirus had been placed at the the terminals of Goa International Airport nad screening was being done by Port Health Officer at Margao Port.

The Health Minister said 12 bedded isolation facility for symptomatic suspects or cases of nCoV was identified of Goa Medical College, Bambolim, and facilities for ventilator management of critical patients available at isolation facility. There were 13 bedded isolation facility for symptomatic travelers travling from Wuhan City China was identified at Sub District Hospital, Chicalim. The calling attention was brought by MLAs Digambar Kamat, Rohan Khaunte, Jayesh Salgaonkar, Vijay Sardesai, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Vinoda Paliencar and Ramakrishna Dhavalikar.

Leader of Opposition in the Goa Legislative Assembly Digambar Kamat on Tuesday urged State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to take precautionary measures to prevent spread of deadly coronavirus and install mechanism to screen patients coming to the state from Kerala by trains. During a discussion on measures to be taken to keep coronavirus away, Mr Kamat said, “There is need to take precaution against the #coronavirus. Few people come from China to Goa, but there is a lot of movement of people coming from Kerala to Goa.” Former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao also urged Rane to set up screening mechanisms at various railway stations in the state to screen passengers coming from Kerala.
