Panaji, Feb 1 : The Congress in Goa on Saturday said that the union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was 'utterly directionless and depressing'. In a statement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said,''All talk, and no plan for concrete action has been the hallmark of today’s budget.
The FM presented the longest and seemingly most uninteresting budget in the beginning of this new Century. The Budget has completely lost sight of all its goals; ‘5 Trillion $ economy’, ‘Employment for all’, ‘doubling farmers income’, ‘Vishwa-guru’ status for India and ‘Sabke sath Sabka Vikas'.'' ''This lack-lusture budget gives full confidence that the government has given up all its efforts to revive the economy. Budget is anti- common man, considering reduced in food subsidy and fertiliser subsidy and slashing budget on mid day meals and MGNREGA Scheme,'' he said.
Mr Chodankar said the budget was very frustrating for youth as there were no efforts for creating employments nor was there any boost for job creating sector. ''The honest tax payers have lost all hopes of either higher deductions and lowering of tax burden.
The divestment of government shares and listing of LIC on the stock exchange is further testimony to the fact that even LIC the last investment and secure deposit of the poor is also shaky now and this Govt is hellbent on destroying every secure financial pillar of India's economy. The budget has punished honest taxpayers,'' he said. ''Budget has nothing for Goa, not even to revive our economy, neither for our tourism nor for mining sector.
Goa’s BJP Chief Minister has also failed to get any new projects sanctioned for our State despite his party government being in power,'' the Congress leader said. (UNI)
