Panaji, Jan 11 : Union Minister for Women and Child Smriti Irani on Saturday said that 70 lakh women had undergone screening for breast cancer under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
At a programme organised to launch Yashaswini Scheme for Women Entrepreneurship, Swasthya Sakhi Project and Breast Cancer Screening Initiative at Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Stadium at Taleigao near the city, she said, "Seventeen lakh women have been screened for breast cancer through Ayushman Bharat scheme."
She said 30 lakh women across India had been screened for cervical cancer under the national universal health care scheme.
The minister said National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was such that it was not setting targets but was achieving as well before deadline. "No one had thought that there would be a government at the Centre which will not just announce schemes, but will also achieve targets ahead of deadline of 2020.
Take the Ujwala Yojana for example for which the target was providing free gas cylinders for five crore women. I am happy that today when we see Ujwala Yojana numbers, in just three years eight crore poor women have got clean fuel," she said. (UNI)
