Panaji, Nov 26 : Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and former State Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sardesai on Tuesday said that he was sorry for continuing support to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after death of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in March this year.
In a tweet, he said,''I’m not reluctant 2 admit that I was wrong in my continued support to BJP after #Parrikar’s death. It was emotional time,& I felt obligated to him in his final moments even though he was unsure of @DrPramodPSawant as his successor. For this, I say sorry !.''
After assembly elections in 2017, Goa Forward Party (GFP), which had three MLAs, extended support to BJP and helped form government led by Parrikar. It’s all three MLAs were included in the cabinet with Mr Sardesai getting portfolios like Agriculture and Town and Country Planning (TCP). After Parrikar’s demise, Mr Sardesai was appointed Deputy Chief Minister of the State. But following entry of ten Congress MLAs into BJP in July this year, Mr Sardesai was removed from the cabinet and so were two other MLAs of his party.
GFP had contested assembly elections against BJP but post polls it aligned with BJP which had attracted criticism from various quarters. Its then President Prabhakar Timle had resigned from his post protesting against the party’s decision. (UNI)
