Panaji, Nov 2: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that those who claim that Centre had given environment clearance to Kalsa-Bhandura project in Karnataka were ignorant of the facts.
Speaking at a programme, he said, ''The letter is on website of Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) and it clearly says that it is for the drinking water project. It says Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) is not applicable for the project..'' The Chief Minister slammed those who held a protest on road in Porvorim on Friday and claimed that they who took part in the protest did not have knowledge of Mhadei River.
Activists and members of opposition parties on Friday staged a 'Rasta Roko' to protest against Union Ministry for Environment and Forest reportedly giving green clearance to Kalsa-Bandura project in Karnataka.
Recently, controversy broke out after MoEF issued a communication to the Karnataka government which allowed the latter to go ahead with the construction of the Kalasa-Bandari canal to divert waters from the Mhadei River. However, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant wrote to Union Minister for Environment and Forest (MoEF) Prakash Javadekar to withdraw the green clearance given to Kalasa-Bandura project.
He is to lead a delegation to New Delhi to meet Union Minister for Environment and Forest (MoEF) in order to urge him to withdraw green clearance given to Karnataka for Kalasa Bandura dam project across river Mhadei.
The delegation for Delhi is likely to leave on November 4, 2019. (UNI)
