Panaji, Jul 9 : Former Goa Minister and leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dr Wilfred Mesquita passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Monday.
He was 70 and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai. Mesquita, who was NRI Commissioner in the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, had joined the party in 2007. Later, he appointed Vice President of state unit of BJP and its spokesperson.
Earlier, he was in Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) when it was ruling the state and founder Vice President of MGP Youth Wing. Born in 1949, he held portfolios of Revenue, Environment, Sports and Youth Affairs, Power, Law and Judiciary and Legislative Affairs. He had also served as a minister in Congress-led government in 1990s.
He had also held position of Chairman of Goa Forest Corporation. Mesquita had graduated from state's premier institute Goa Medical College (GMC) and later specialised in medicine. UNI
