Pledge to treat waste by oneself

Panaji, May 29: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday took a pledge that he would take responsibility for treating waste generated by him, secretariat and government offices and also nominated two Deputy Chief Ministers and Leader of Opposition to take similar oaths in order to make the state cleaner.

Addressing a press conference at his official residence in the city, the Chief Minister said,"I will treat the waste I generate myself. My secretariat, my government offices will also be part of this process.”

He said Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sardessai and Manohar Ajgaonkar and Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar had also been nominated for taking similar oaths.

Sawant said in order to widen cleanliness and control garbage menace schools and panchayats would be included in the process. He also said that households should start investing in bio-digesters. He said government would look into subsidising bio-digesters but could not provide them free of cost.
