Dr Pramod Sawant takes charge as Goa CM, floor test likely on Mar 20

Panaji, Mar 19: Newly appointed Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took charge of his office at the State Secretariat at Porvorim near the city on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, crucial floor test is likely to happen on Wednesday, a source said on condition of anonymity, adding Assembly Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo would be Protem Speaker to conduct proceedings of the floor test.

Before taking charge, the Chief Minister visited residence of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at his private residence at Dona Paula near the city and also Mahalaxmi Temple in the city. At the residence of Parrikar, the Chief Minister met sons of the former Chief Minister Utpal and Abhijaat.

Speaking to reporters after visiting former Chief Minister's residence, Dr Sawant said,"Parrikar's sons Utpal and Abhijaat are my friends. It is my duty to visit them after I become CM. I have not gone to office yet. I have come to visit them."

"Manohar Parrikar has been my political ideal and guru. He has been a fatherly figure for me. I am in politics, became MLA, Speaker and CM because of him. It is my courtesy visit," the Chief Minister said.

Dr Sawant said distribution of portfolios would be done as soon as possible. The Chief Minister is likely to visit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state headquarters in the city in the afternoon. (UNI)
