Panaji, Mar 2 : Goa Governor Mridula Sinha on Saturday laid foundation stone for new Darbar Hall at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, near the city.
The new Durbar Hall building is planned to cater the need of Raj Bhavan to have bigger space for conducting various Government ceremonies at larger scale as the present Durbar Hall at Raj Bhavan has space constraint. Foundation Stone laying ceremony was held in the presence of Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik, Minister for Public Works Department Ramkrishna Dhavlikar, MLA, Taleigao, Jennifer Monserrate, Spouse of Governor Ram Kripal Sinha, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister P Krishnamurthy, IAS, Vice Chancellor, Goa University, Dr Varun Sahni, Secretary to Governor Rupesh Kumar Thakur, IAS, Principal Chief Engineer, PWD Uttam Parsekar and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mridula Sinha said Raj Bhavan had its` Durbar Hall with historical importance. ''It has witnessed many historical events and ceremonies in the past. Since Durbar Hall is having limited seating capacity, Raj Bhavan was finding lot of inconvenience to organize Government ceremonies and other events in larger scale. Hence the need for new Durbar Hall building was felt and efforts were made to construct the same. Upcoming hall will meet all the requirements for conducting Government Ceremonies such as Swearing in ceremonies and other Official events,'' she added.
Ms Sinha also lauded the significant efforts made by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Minister for PWD Ramkrishna Dhavlikar to construct the New Darbar Hall. She also appreciated Officials of Public Works Department for planning and undertaking the work of construction for new Durbar Hall. Mr Dhavlikar said problem of space constraint at Durbar Hall was felt since last many years but Governor Dr Mridula Sinha was the one who felt the need to have a new Durbar Hall and conceived the idea to construct it. New building of Durbar Hall would have aesthetic view connecting to nature and would have around 700 seating capacity with all modern amenities, he said.
Earlier, Governor along with spouse Dr Ramkripal Sinha performed Pooja as a part of laying foundation stone for new Durbar Hall. (UNI)
