Panaji, Nov 6 : Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated as victory of good over evil. It symbolises victory of Lord Ram over Ravana in most part of the country. However, in Goa it is day of celebration of victory of Lord Krishna over demon king Narkasur.
This being the reason, on the eve of Diwali different sizes of effigies of Narkasur are erected and burnt during the wee hours of amidst much fanfare.
Last night also effigies of Narkasur, of different sizes, mostly giants but beautifully decorated, were erected across the state. The effigies dotted different cities of the state, including major one like Panaji, Margao, Mapusa and Vasco.
Large number of people, specially youth, took part in the celebration. To manage crowd in the night, traffic people had made special arrangement and maintained a tight vigil over movement of vehicle in an effort to ensure that there was inconvenience to the people. (UNI)
