Congress stakes claim to form Govt in Goa


Panaji, Sept 18: Congress MLAs in a letter to the Goa Governor on Monday demanded that the present BJP government should be dismissed as the administration in Goa is in a standstill. Congress also said that being the single largest party, the governor should invite it to form the government in the state.

Leader of the opposition and Congress Legislative party leader Babu Kavlekar handed over the memorandum signed by all 16 MLAs to the secretary to the governor. Congress has 16 members in the 40-member state Goa assembly while the BJP has only 14 seats. The Goa Congress members, however, are yet to meet the governor, who is currently travelling and is expected to return tomorrow.

For the last many months, Congress had alleged that the administration in Goa had collapsed due to the serious illness of the incumbent CM Manohar Parrikar. For the last many months Goa CM has been in and out of hospitals for treatment. Parrikar who is suffering from a pancreatic ailment, was admitted to the AIIMS on Saturday. (With input from UNI)
