Delicious, colorful and juicy oranges contain an impressive array of vitamins, minerals and nutrients for healthy growth. This citrus fruit is rich in the dietary fibre pectin. It is an excellent source of Vitamin C which is a powerful and natural antioxidant. Orange zest [peel] is a popular flavoring agent. Orange blossoms and leaves are used in herbal teas.
1. Orange and Lettuce Salad
Prep time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 15 minutes
Cut oranges and peel. Using a sharp knife cut between membranes and free segments. Remove seeds. In a bowl combine oranges, lettuce, nuts and tomato dressing. Cover and chill.
Combine all ingredients thoroughly. Store this in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
2. Orange Cake
Prep time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 40 minutes
Using the above ingredients mix as for a plain cake. Pour into a greased tin and bake at 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Check to see if centre of cake is firm using a toothpick. Set aside to cool.
Mix together 1/3 cup orange juice and1/3 cup sugar. Pour this over the warm cake. Sprinkle powdered sugar over the top or give it a glaze by pouring icing sugar and orange juice mixed together. Your delicious, light orange cake is ready with all the aroma and goodness of citrus!
3. Orange Fluff Dessert
A cool and creamy orange dessert, this is easy to make.
Prep time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 1 hour
In a bowl combine the orange pieces and pineapple well. Add the jelly powder and continue mixing well. When well blended add the whipped cream keeping aside some for the topping. Refrigerate for an hour. Decorate the top with some orange sections and whipped cream. Voila! The dessert is ready.
