Masakali remix song draw flak from AR Rahman, Prasoon Joshi

The remix song and video of ‘Masakali’ originally composed by AR Rahman for a 2009 Hindi film Delhi-6, has drawn flak from no other than the Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and the songwriter, adman and Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification(CBFC) Prasoon Joshi.

Music composer AR Rahman has expressed his displeasure with the newly released track ‘Masakali 2.0’. In response to the release of the rejigged single, the

AR Rahman expressed his displeasure in a Tweet, wrote:

“Enjoy the original #Masakali,” wrote Rahman alongside the link to the video of the original. He also shared a picture of his statement which read, “No short cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of director, a composer and a lyricist, supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew.”

Lyricist Prasoon Joshi also took to Twitter to express his annoyance over the remake of the song:

“All songs written for #Delhi6 including #Masakali close to heart,sad to see when original creation of @arrahman @prasoonjoshi_ &singer @_MohitChauhan insensitively utilised. Upto the conscience of @Tseries. Hopefully the fans will stand for originality. @RakeyshOmMehra” he wrote.

Maskali 2, the remix video, played by Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria was a trending video on YouTube and Twitter on Wednesday. In the remix version of old Rahman song, which was doing rounds on Twitter under the hashtag #Masakali2, Tara and Sidharth danced as romantic couple. The duo can be seen drenched in rain went on enjoying themselves while grooving to the foot-tapping music. The remix number has been sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon, with music by Tanishk Bagchi.
