Los Angeles, Feb 10 : Parasite, a South Korean film that has won the best international film Oscar at the 92nd Academy awards.
In the history of Oscar, this is for the first time a non-English film was chosen for the Oscar award as the best film. Parasite becoming the first non-English language film to win best picture, while adding honors for director Bong Joon Ho, original screenplay and the renamed "international feature film" category. Bong Joon Ho is the second director of Asian descent to win after Ang Lee who has won twice, once for "Brokeback Mountain" and again for "Life of Pi."
It was the hot favourite for the award, but had to defeat contenders including Pedro Almodóvar's mid-life memoir Pain & Glory, and French social comment drama Les Misérables. (UNI-XINHUA)
