Glorious opening for ‘Darbar’

The mass appeal of Rajanikanth has an impact all over the world on the first Day and it reflected on the Box Office collection.

The film hit the theatres in more than 4,000 screens across the world on January 9. Darbar took a glorious opening and has been receiving positive reviews from Rajinikanth's fans. According to trade analyst LM Kaushik, the film has grossed a whopping Rs 2.27 crore in Chennai alone on its opening day. After 2.0, Rajinikanth has struck gold for the second time by grossing more than Rs 2 crore at the Chennai box office.

From Kerala, first day share was 1.34 Crore according to Friday Matinee.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala said on Twitter: “Superstar @rajinikanth's #DarbarTelugu takes fantastic start in Telugu states with Rs 7.5 crore gross on the first day. “

Sharing Karnataka collection details, Raghu Reddy said on Twitter: “#Darbar has taken sensational opening in Karnataka despite being a non holiday release. Day 1 Karnataka Gross is 5.45 CR approx”.

After almost a year since Petta, Superstar Rajinikanth is back on the screen with his latest release, Darbar. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film is based on the life of a police officer who takes up the mission to bust a drug racket in the city of Mumbai.

Director AR Murugadoss's Darbar is also seeing a dream run in foreign countries. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to reveal the box office collection of the film in USA, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. In the US, the film has minted US$615k (Rs 4.38 crore) as of 6.15 pm PST (7.45 am IST, Friday) and is still going strong at the box office.

Rajinikanth plays super-cop Aadhithya Arunachalam, who is the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, in Darbar. Actor Suniel Shetty plays the role of Rajinikanth's nemesis in the film, who gives off the idea that if Thalaiva is a super-cop, he is a super-villain. Darbar marks Rajinikanth's first collaboration with director AR Murugadoss.
