Marrakech, Nov 29: Priyanka Chopra Jonas will create history when she becomes the first actor ever to be paid tributes at Marrakech's iconic Jamâa El Fna square during the 18th Marrakech International Film Festival beginning in the central Moroccan city on Friday.
Priyanka will receive the Marrakech festival's top honour on December 5. Three films of the actor -- 'Bajirao Mastani', 'Krrish 3' and 'The Sky is Pink' -- will be screened during the festival, one of the top international film festivals in the African and the Middle Eastern region. According to the Marrakech film festival, "for the first time in the festival's history a tribute will be paid on the mythical Jamâa El Fena square, where Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra will receive a tribute before the people of Marrakech". Hailing the honour as a recognition by the Moroccan people, Priyanka said: “It is such an honour to be recognized this year with a tribute on Jamâa El Fena square before the Moroccan public, who have always showed so much love and support throughout my career."
Priyanka had earlier attended the Marrakech festival in 2012 when it paid tributes to Hindi Cinema. Hindi cinema is popular among the Moroccan people. Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan are household names in the West African country. The festival also has an 'In Conversation With' programme by Priyanka this year.
The Marrakech festival will also pay tributes to celebrated personalities like American actor-director Robert Redford, French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier and Moroccan actor Mouna Fettou this year. (UNI)
