Mardani 2, the sequel of 2014 film Mardani that shows Rani Mukerji as a ruthless police officer, has met with a trouble as a group of residents of Kota, Rajasthan, complained against the film.
Mardaani 2 shows Rani Mukerji's character Shivani Shivaji Roy chasing a 21-year-old serial rapist from Kota. In the recently launched trailer, the film looks quite promising. But, soon after the trailer's launch, residents of Kota came up against the film for showing their city in a bad light.
The trailer shows Kota as the city of crime. Unhappy with the usage of their city’s name, a group of residents of the city approached Lok Sabha speaker and Kota MP Om Birla with a complaint to drop the name of the city from the film.
According to the trailer, Mardaani 2 takes place in Kota where a young man targets female students by raping and murdering them. Demanding that Kota's name should be dropped from the film, various social groups from the city approached Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP Om Birla. According to reports, the groups have maintained that never has an incident of sexual assault happened in the city and the film will be a bad image in front of thousands of students who come to the city for coaching.
Director Gopi Puthran claimed that the film was inspired by true events. He also presented the official data by National Crime Records Bureau as supporting evidence. The data says that more than 2000 rape crimes are committed by boys under 18 years in India every year.
The interesting film shows Rani Mukerji as Shivani and the climax of the movie centered around her massive showdown with a 21-year-old villain who is an embodiment of pure evil.
