Plagiarism charge against Kaappaan dismissed by Madras HC

The Madras high court on Thursday, dismissed the plagiarism case filed by John Charles, a film writer, against the Suriya- Mohanlal starrer Kaappaan. The movie is slated to be released on September 20. In a petition filed a few weeks back, John Charles had charged director KV Anand’s Kaappaan of being the story taken from his story Saravedi.

John had demanded that the makers of the movie pay him his copyright charges and also display his name in the movie’s credits. He had also wanted the release of the movie to be stalled until his demands were met.

With the dismissal of the case all the anxiety that surrounded the release date of the movie has been put to rest.

Kaappaan is a Tamil movie and the Telugu version named Bandobast is to be released the same day.

Made on a budget of Rs 75 Cr, the movie with the popular actors like Suriya, Mohanlal, Arya, Sayyeshaa and Boman Irani is expected to do well. The music director is Harris Jayaraj. The release of this action filled political drama is being awaited keenly.
