Kolkata, Jun 03: Veteran actress and Calcutta Youth Choir founder Ruma Guha Thakurta breathed her last on Monday morning at her Ballygunge Place residence. She was 84.
She was suffering from age-related illness for the past several years.
Born in Kolkata in 1934, the veteran actress-singer tied the knot with legendary Kishore Kumar in 1951. Later they got divorced and in 1960 she got married to Arup Guha Thakurta.
She founded the founder of the famous Calcutta Youth Choir in 1958.
She acted in a number of Bengali films like ‘Antony Firingi’, ‘Ganga Obhijaan’ and ‘Palatak’ and also carved a niche for herself in the field of playback singing.
She recently returned to the city after staying at her singer-son Amit Kumar's residence for a few months. (UNI)
