Pennews

Thala Ajith's 'Viswasam' has completed 25 days of packed running in theatres worldwide and the movie is now galloping towards the Rs.200 crore-band on box office collection.

According to the latest data released by trade analysts, Thala Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’ has beaten Vijay’s controversial political thriller ‘Sarkar’.

Beating the lifetime gross of Vijay's Sarkar, Ajith's ‘Viswasam’ has also become the all-time fourth highest grossing movie at the Tamil Nadu box office. In collection, ‘Viswasam’ is now just behind Vijay's Mersal, Rajinikanth's 2.0 and Prabhas' Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.

If you judge a superstar based on the widespread loyalty of his fans and collection of hit films, then Thala Ajith is an undisputed superstar of Tamil. As far as the loyalty of fans are concerned a recent story circulated is this. Recently, a fan named Ganesh chased Thala Ajith's car in order to meet him. And the fan Ganesh had travelled 18 kilometres from the Chennai airport, and the Ajith managed to notice him. He advised Ganesh not to repeat this act in future.

Anyway, the confidence in the fan base might have compelled both the producer, Sathya Jyothi Films and the star Ajith to give a direct fight to Rajanikanth's 'Petta' at the box office through the simultaneous launch of 'Viswasam' during Pongal. Both the movies began running on January 9 and for the past 25 days, both 'Viswasam' and 'Petta' have been minting money worldwide. Though Rajani's 'Petta' has already crossed Rs.200 crore band, Ajith's 'Viswasam' also nears the feat.

If we examine Ajith's movie career in the past 17 years, we can notice a regular increase in the revenue. Though Ajith entered into Tamil Cinema in 1990, he made a mark in 1993 through 'Amaravathi'. If we take Ajith's graph from 2002, we can see a regular rise both in popularity and the gross box office collection. In 2002, 'Villain' made a collection of Rs.20 crore. From there, the list goes like this: Citizen (2001- collection 26 core- superhit), Kireedam (2007- collection Rs. 31crore- superhit), Varalaaru (2006- collection 55 crore- blockbuster), Billa (2007-collection Rs.75 crore-blockbuster), Yennai Arindhaal (2015- collection Rs.110 crore- blockbuster), Arambham (2013- collection Rs.124 crore-blockbuster), Vedalam (2015- collection Rs.126 crore-blockbuster), Mankatha (2011- collection Rs.130 crore), Veeram (2014- collection-Rs.156 crore-blockbuster).

The latest movie 'Viswasam', which has already collected Rs.180 crore is said to be the highest grossing Ajith movie. Viswasam, starring Ajith in the lead role named Thooku Durai, has worked well with the family audience. Hero Ajith’s rare chemistry with Nayanthara also drew women folk to the theatre in Tamil Nadu. Now by giving ‘Petta’ a run for money, the verdict seems clear, Ajith may inherit Rajinikanth’s throne in future.
