Many names are being flouted by the makers of ’83 which has Ranveer Singh in the lead playing Kapil Dev. The latest addition to the cast is Chirag Patil son of cricketer Sandip Patil who was part of the team that won the World Cup under Kapil Dev’s captaincy. Chirag is to play the role of his father according to reports.
Kabir Khan’s sports drama seeks to recreate on screen this piece of Indian cricketing history. Chirag has already acted in 11 Marathi and Hindi movies and is all excited to be stepping into his father’s shoes, be it on screen, and more so as it is with Ranveer Singh in the lead.
Knowing the news, former Indian cricketer and Chirag’s father #SandeepPatil writes a heartfelt letter to his son @IamChiragpatil. Chirag is playing his father's role in ‘83. Sharing this letter on Twitter, Chirag noted:
“ I had to share this
A Letter From Dad
Thank you so much Baba
Chirag said, ‘I am really excited, the ’83 World Cup is considered a milestone in Indian history and to be part of that team is a dream come true and playing my father, who is my hero is just awesome. I don’t think any actor has done this before, I am the first,’ he beamed with delight. He added that ever since his mother Deepa had heard about the film, she had wished for him to get the role of Sandip Patil.
Patil junior has never played cricket and admits that at the start he was a bit nervous. But now with training under Balwinder Sandhu all the screen players are shaping up well. Chirag has also taken up training sessions at Chandrakant Pandit’s Training Academy.
Chirag’s big regret is that he never saw his father play for he had retired from the game before he was born.
