Despite a strong competition from Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’, Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’ rules the box office worldwide and after 22 days of its release, the movie made a collection of more than Rs.200 crore till now.
The film Petta, which hit the theatres on January 9, was upheld by both masses and critics and the movie has entered into the fourth week in theatres. Trade analysts said, Petta found a place among the list of Rs.200cr Grossing South Indian movies such as Endhiran, Ai, Baahubali1, Kabali, Baahubali2, Mersal, Rangasthalam, Sarkar, 2Point 0.
A strong nostalgia towards the vintage Rajanikanth created by director Karthik Subbaraj, is one of the factors which pull audience to the theatre. Petta's theatrical run may affect in the coming days as a clutch of new Tamil films such as Sarvam Thaala Mayam, Peranbu and Vantha Rajavathan Varuven hit the theatres.
Rajinikanth's film manages to surpass the Rs 200-crore mark worldwide and becomes the fourth Indian film in the last four months to achieve this feat. With this, Superstar becomes the only South Indian star to have four Rs 200-crore grossing films in his credit.
Further, Petta has also managed to rake in over Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. With this achievement, Rajinikanth has three Rs 100-crore-grossing films namely Petta, 2.0 and Enthiran.
