Chennai, Jan 10 : Cinemania reached a crescendo in Tamil Nadu on Thursday as two big ticket films--Rajinikanth's 'Petta' and Ajithkumar's 'Viswasam--hitting the screens with packed shows, noisy atmosphere, wedding in theatres and violence.
With the first shows starting as early as 0100 hrs in the morning, a festival like atmosphere prevailed in front of theatres. Delirious fans of Rajini and Ajith burst crackers, danced in front of cinema theatres throwing traffic out of gear and performed milk abhishekams to the cutouts of the actors, turning a serene morning into a noisy one.
A number of pumpkins, coconuts and lemons were crushed to ward off the evil eye and for the films to become a hit at the box office.
With almost equal number of screens allotted for both the films, there were lots of cheer and lot to fight among fans for the Pongal festivity.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that it was early Pongal festival for the fans of the two actors. What more Rajini fans celebrated the occasion by cooking sweet pongal at 0530 hrs at a theatre at Sholingur in Vellore district, in which many women also took part.
Perhaps, in a first and topping the celebrations for Rajinikanth's 'Petta' was the marriage of a die-hard fan that took place at a theatre in Chennai.
It was a traditional wedding with a priest chanting mantras and senior members of Rajini Makkal Mandram giving the mangalsutra.
A similar wedding took place in a threate in Thanjavur also. (UNI)
