‘Odiyan’: Mohanlal film is in 100 Cr club before release

Mohanlal starrer Odiyan has found a place in Rs.100 crore club before the theatre release of the movie.

Odiyan will be the first Malayalam film to achieve this rare feat. Taking to twitter on Tuesday, Director VK Shrikumar Menon himself shared this info to the audience: “Happy to share the news that Odiyan has crossed 100 cr business mark yesterday evening 3 days b4 releaSe. This is the rights and prebooking sale combined figure. 3rd film in south and 11th in Indian cinema history #odiyanrisng @Mohanlal@themanjuwarrier (sic),’.

Major revenue came as the theatre advance (Rs.17 crore) and Satellite rights (Rs.21 crore). Satellite rate shared between Asianet (Rs.17 crore) and Amritha channel (Rs.7 crore).

In 'Odiyan', Mohanlal will be seen playing the role of a hired villain who has shape-shifting abilities. People in the Malabar region of Kerala believe that Odiyan could assume the shape of animals, and inhabited the area before the era of electricity. Director Shrikumar Menon claimed that Mohanlal's Odiyan will put Malayalam cinema on the map in terms of making big-budget, spectacle movies.

The film also stars Prakash Raj, Siddique, Innocent, Nandu and Narain in major roles. The film is bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor in the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
