Actor-turned-politician Mukesh is the latest and first from Mollywood to be caught in the ‘#MeToo’ campaign that has trapped several across the country, leaving him to explain things that happened 19 years ago.
A woman television crew member of the ‘Koteeswaran’ television quiz programme, tweeted today that she was approached by Mukesh 19 years ago. He tried not only to call her to his hotel room but also attempted to get her room changed next to his, she alleged.
Mukesh was heard on a regional TV channel saying he remembered nothing. Laughing away the whole matter, he wanted know why she had remained silent for nearly 19 years and added that he was unable to recollect such an incident.
Her tweet said: “I was 20 years old quiz directing #koteeswaran when the mallu host #mukeshkumar called my room multiple times and then changed my room to beside his on the next sch. My then boss @derekobrienmp spoke to me for an hour & got me out on the next flight. 19 years on thank you Derek.”
She adds: “I was the only woman in a crew of men. One night when the calls where never ending I stayed in my colleague room. And @LeMeridien Chennai you are the worst for being enablers when I asked you why my room floor was different so nonchalantly I was told Mr Kumar asked for it.”
The woman is now a casting director and Derek O’Brien, who was her boss then, is now a Trinamool Congress leader.
Mukesh is a CPM legislator from Kollam. Party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the matter would be looked into. Hindi actor Nana Patekar, TV actor Alok Nath and Central Minister and leading journalist MJ Akbar are among those facing the heat of the campaign.
