AMMA meet fails to decide Dileep issue, says general body to take call

The executive meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), held in the wake of a request by a few women actors demanding a final decision on the association membership of Dileep, accused in the actor-abduction case, turned into a damp squib.

Any decision on the membership could be taken only by the association general body, according to AMMA president Mohanlal. The association had earlier proposed seeking advice from law experts. He also told mediapersons after the executive late on Saturday night that he was not in a position to say when the general body meeting would be held.

The executive met in the wake of a repeated letter by actors Revathy, Padmapriya and Parvathy, saying a decision on Dileep should be taken by Tuesday. In her letter by Revathy, representing the team of women actors, she said Dileep should remain suspended from AMMA till the court pronounced its verdict in the actor abduction case where Dileep is an accused and is on bail after being in jail for more than 80 days.

This was the third letter, following failure to respond to the two letters sent earlier. The letters were in the backdrop of the August 7 meeting between the executive and the three actors where the association said it was seeking advice from lawyers.

But then came the flood in the State and with it the issue was put in the back burner. However, the issue cropped up after the latest letter.
