Sabumon wins ‘Bigg Boss’ Malayalam title

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 01: Sabumon bagged the ‘Bigg Boss ‘Malayalam title in the grand finale on Sunday. The show was hosted by super star Mohanlal and had become increasingly popular with the audience. The title carries a trophy and cash prize of one crore.

The 100-day long Bigg Boss Malayalam reality show began its journey on June 24 with 16 contestants. This came to an end on Sunday as two final contestants remained to win the title- Sabumon and Television anchor Pearly Manney. Keeping the audience at the edge of the seat, finally, Mohanlal announced Sabu as the winner. The film director Lijo Jose Pellissery and producer Vijay Babu made a surprise entry to the venue and offered a lead role in the upcoming movie to the winner Sabu.

Sabumon had became a household name with his prank show ‘Tharikida’. He was also seen in many reality shows as a special guest. Lastly, he was seen anchoring the show 'Take it easy'. But later he ended up in a controversy and decided to take a break from the television industry for some time.

While Pearle Maaney, Sabumon Abdusamad, Srinish Aravind, Aristo Suresh, Aditi Rai, Archana Suseelan, Basheer Bashi, Hima Shankar, Anoop Chandran, Ranjini Haridas, Diya Sana, Shweta Menon, Deepan Murali, Sreelakshmi Sreekumar, David John and Manoj K Verma were the celebrity contestants, Anjali Ameer and Shiyas Kareem were the wild-card entrants this season.

The 100-day long show presented many surprises to the audience such as the early elimination of big stars like Ranjini Haridas, Shweta Menon and Anoop Chandran. But some trade pundits opine that the show in Malayalam was a damp squib despite having superstar Mohanlal as the presenter. However it is indisputable that the show had many Malayali fans across the world. Doing justice to the show, all the six final contestants, Pearle Maaney, Sabumon Abdusamad, Srinish Aravind, Aristo Suresh, Aditi Rai and Shiyas Kareem kept their composure and patience to tackle situations in the house and were often seen playing a fair game.

During their stint on the show, all five contestants always showcased a fighting spirit and went to great lengths to perform their tasks. From the beginning onwards, all the contestants displayed a healthy competitive spirit throughout their time in the house and to add spice the show also displayed many romantic moments and cat fights between the contestants.

One basic law of the show was that all the contestants should speak in Malayalam also met with peals of laughter as many contestants could not break with their habit of speaking in English.

Meanwhile, breaking a controversy, before the cat was out of the bag, the name of Sabumon as winner had been circulated on the social media. But the Asianet CEO Madhavan, who participated in the prize distribution ceremony along with the Mohanlal, categorically rejected the rumours about the BIGG BOSS programme. He said that ‘BIGG BOSS’ is a globally acclaimed show which was audited by the world's no.2 audit firm. “So the chance of rigging the show is impossible,” said Madhavan.

The grand finale was a different experience with host Mohanlal who sang many popular Malayalam songs which evoked nostalgia of Kerala.
