Pad Man is being curiously watched. With a taboo subject as its central focus everyone wants to know if it will click. Going by reports so far, the Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Radhika Apte film is doing very well. On the opening day 9th Feb it saw a collection of Rs. 10.26crs. Saturday saw it take a jump of 35% to earn Rs. 13.68crs. That brought the total to a whopping Rs.23.94crs in two days. On Sunday the film is expected to do even better.
The film has been produced by Twinkle Khanna under her banner “Mrs Funnybones”. Known for her feminist views and bold statements, Twinkle said, ’It’s high time that we brought it [menstruation] in front of everyone.’ The film is based on the real story of South Indian Arunachalam Muruganantham who struggled for years and finally succeeded in bringing out a low cost sanitary pad.
Akshay Kumar agreed to do this film on a topic that has hitherto been taboo only to educate and spread the message of ‘Hygiene, Health and Happiness’ of the family. Directed by R.Balki, the film has so far received positive and good reviews.
The Pakistan government has however banned the film in Pakistan taking into consideration the subject of the film.
