New Delhi, May 5 : Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on Tuesday announced the fresh Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and medical entrance exam (NEET) dates.
JEE Main 2020 exams for second phase will be held from July 19 to 23, the NEET 2020 exam will be held on July 26, he announced while addressing a live webinar. The national level entrance examinations were postponed due to the COVID-19 lockdown which was imposed on March 24, 2020. JEE (Advanced) is to be held in August, dates for which have to be fixed.
National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam regulator, has also announced the dates on the respective websites - ntaneet.nic.in and jeemain.nta.nic.in via an official notification. Trying to assuage concerns of parents and students regarding the announcement of fresh dates, the minister also informed that the dates for CBSE class 10 and 12 exams will be announced soon. In view of the syllabus for JEE Main and NEET 2021 being curtailed, the minister during the webinar advised students to self-study and take help of online learning platforms including SWAYAM and Diksha that have been developed by the MHRD to help students continue their learning processes at home.
Mr Pokhriyal also clarified that the academic curriculum for next year has been curtailed and revised syllabus has been announced by the respective agencies. In low-connectivity areas, the content will be telecast through SWAYAM Prabha TV, he said. During the webinar, the Minister also asked students to use the online learning platforms including DIKSHA, SWAYAM and others that have been developed by the MHRD to help students continue their learning processes at home. More than 900,000 students have registered to appear for JEE Main and over 15.93 lakh have applied for NEET 2020, according to National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam regulator.
Admit cards of the registered candidates will be released soon and will have details of the exam centre, exam city and session of the exam. NEET UG exam 2020 and JEE Main April session exam were earlier scheduled to be held on May 3 and from the first week of April respectively. However, the entrance exams were postponed after the Prime Minister announced a nationwide lockdown till April 14 due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The lockdown was subsequently extended till May 3 and then till May 17. Anxious students and parents have been raising their concerns and seeking clarification regarding rescheduling of exams. (UNI)
