Puducherry, Dec 4 : Jawhaarlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) will host the four-day 35th Annual Conference of the Indian Rheumatology Association (IRACON) from December 5.
A Jipmer release here on Wednesday said, Rheumatology, the disease of joint and the immune system will affect more than 10 per cent of the general population across all age groups including children, young adult and elderly.
The specialty is challenged with unmanageable patient load and inadequate trained manpower with only a handful of centres in India with qualified teachers and training facilities. As a result patients suffer due to improper diagnosis, delayed diagnosis and sub-optimal or wrong treatment.
There is need for a large number of specialized centers for Rheumatology in the country to cater to the huge burden of these diseases.
JIPMER is credited with being one of the earliest institutes in India to offer a specialty training program in Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, the release said. (UNI)
