Panaji, Mar 9: Two teams representing BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus and three teams representing Pilani Campus bagged the first position in different categories in the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon, 2019 (SIH, 2019) organised by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
According to a statement here, SIH, one of the world's biggest Hackathon, was held at 48 centres across India on March 2 and 3, 2019. 'Smart India Hackathon 2019 is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving. Out of about two lakh students across India, 300 Teams consisting of approx. 1500 students were declared Winner of SIH 2019 under their respective problem statements,' the statement said.
Two teams representing BITS Pilani, GoaCampus - Team ZENIITHat Nagpur and Team APPTHLETESat Ahmedabad, were among the winning teams. Both teams competed against top colleges of India and won in two different Categories under different Department/Organisation.Team ZENIITH, comprising of Ahan M R, Vedashree Kulkarni, Gaurav Sangle, Aryan Agarwal and Sanket Badgujar, won a cash prize of Rs 50,000 in their problem statement under the Ministry of Railways. Team APPTHLETES won a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 in their problem statement under ISRO.
The team comprised of Gargi Balasubramaniam, Adithya R, Abhiraj Hinge, Mayank Manuja, Pranav Agarwal and Samarth Jain. Both teams were mentored by Professor Vinayak Naik, Professor in Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, BITS Pilani, Goa Campus. Students were also guided and supported by Professor Ramesha C K, Associate Dean, Student Welfare Division (SWD) and Dr Rajorshi Sen Gupta, Faculty-Incharge, Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE).
Three winning teams representing Pilani Campus - Team HUSKARLS, team EDGE-TRIGGERED and team CICADACRACKERS worked on problem statements by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India and Ministry of MSME.
