New Delhi, Apr 24: Number of new Employees’ Provident Fund subscribers during February this year totalled at 6,91,273, according to data released by the government on Friday.
During September 2017 to February 2020, as many as 3,29,17,421 new subscribers joined the EPF scheme, the Ministry of Statistics &Programme Implementation said. During the same period, a total 3,74,70,897 new subscribers joined the Employees’ State Insurance scheme. Number of newly registered employees in the ESI and paying contribution during the month were 11,56,583.
During September 2017 to February 2020, as many as 18,49,113 new subscribers joined the National Pension Scheme. New Subscribers contributing during February were 60,002 -- comprising state governments and non-government employees. The present report gives different perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector and does not measure employment at a holistic level.
Since April 2018, the Ministry has been bringing out the employment related statistics in the formal sector covering the period September 2017 onwards, using information on the number of subscribers who have subscribed under three major schemes, namely the EPF Scheme, the ESI Scheme and the NPS.
