Kolkata, Apr 12: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on all citizens of this country. In semi-urban and rural areas, the most critical issue is the awareness of COVID-19 and the preventive measures one needs to adopt in times like these.
There are also sporadic instances of essentials not being available with the household. Bandhan Bank, through its development programmes implementing agency, Bandhan-Konnagar, has taken a few initiatives to address both these issues. Bandhan Bank’s development activities are aimed at poverty alleviation and holistic development through generation of sustainable livelihoods, education, health, employment generation and financial literacy.
All these programmes are implemented by Bandhan-Konnagar. There are various programmes run to meet the above objectives. In the days of the lockdown, all the programmes were realigned to deliver on the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown related objectives of awareness and access. "We developed an awareness leaflet for COVID-19 based on government notifications about the pandemic and instructions for prevention. This was developed in Hindi, Bangla, Odiya and English. 504 health volunteers, who we call SwasthaSahayika (SS), and 115 staff members, were trained on COVID-19 by government health institutions in 6 districts in West Bengal, 3 in Bihar and 3 in Jharkhand," said the company.(UNI)
