Mumbai, Apr 9: The BSE Sensex on Thursday jumped by 868.35 points to 30,762.31 in the opening trade, taking firm cues from the global market.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange too bounced back by 272.75 points to 9,021.50. Sliding by 173 points on Wednesday, the Sensex bounced back on the strength of Sectoral indices that all opened in green.
The Sensex registered intra day's high and low at 30,847.10 and 30,459.76 points, respectively.
The Nifty recorded intra day's high and low at 9,022.20 and 8,917.45 points, respectively. The sectoral indices like health care, telecom, metal and auto rallied by more than four per cent each.
In scrips, all were in green, except Hind Unilever.
The gainers were HDFC by 5.30 pc to Rs 1639.90, Bajaj finance by 4.81 per cent to Rs 2445.25, Axis Bank by 4.72 per cent to Rs 409.75 and Bharti Airtel by 4.59 per cent to Rs 482.80.
US stock markets advanced on Wednesday, after President Donald Trump said Americans might be getting to the top of the "curve" in relation to the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus. Overall, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 gained 3.4 per cent each and the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.58 per cent.
While, Asian shares were mixed on Thursday. Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.5 per cent in early deals while Hong Kong was up half a per cent. Australian shares also gained 1.5 per cent.
In commodities, oil prices surged in early trade as there is a crucial meeting of oil-producing countries later in the day. B Brent futures were up 2.5 per cent to 33.68 dollars a barrel.(UNI)
