New Delhi, Feb 14 : The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly Wholesale Price Index (WPI), stood at 3.1 percent for January 2020 as compared to 2.59 per cent for the previous month, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday.
The WPI inflation stood at 2.76 per cent during January last year. The rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group decreased to 10.12 per cent in January, 2020 from 11.05 per cent in December 2019.
Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far is 2.50 per cent compared to a buildup rate of 2.49 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year. Inflation for important commodities / commodity groups is indicated in Annex-1 and Annex-II.
The index for 'Food Articles' group declined by 1 per cent due to lower price of fruits & vegetables. The index for ' Non-Food Articles' group declined by 1.4 per cent due to lower price of floriculture. The index for 'Minerals' group declined by 7.2 per cent due to lower price of manganese ore. The index for 'Crude Petroleum & Natural Gas' group rose by 2.7 per cent due to higher price of crude petroleum.
The index for Fuel and power rose by 1.4 per cent and for 'Mineral Oils' group rose by 2.5 per cent. The index for 'Manufacturing Of Food Products' group rose by 1.2 per cent and 'Manufacturing Of Beverages' group rose by 0.5 per cent. The index for 'Manufacturing Of Tobacco Products' group declined by 1.2 per cent and for 'Manufacturing Of Textiles' group by 0.4 per cent.
The index for 'Manufacturing Of Wearing Apparel' group declined by 0.8 per cent and for 'Manufacturing Of Leather And Related Products' group declined by 0.5 per cent. The index for 'Manufacturing Of Paper And Paper Products' group declined by 0.3 per cent while for the 'Printing And Reproduction Of Recorded Media ' group rose by 0.8 per cent.
The index for 'Manufacturing Of Chemicals And Chemical Products' group rose by 0.1 per cent while for 'Manufacturing Of Pharmaceuticals, Medicinal Chemical And Botanical Products' group declined by 0.1 per cent. The index for 'Manufacturing Of Electrical Equipment' group rose by 0.2 per cent and for 'Manufacturing Of Motor Vehicles, Trailers And Semi-Trailers' group rose by 0.2 per cent.
The index for the 'Manufacturing Of Other Transport Equipment' group rose by 0.3 per cent while for 'Manufacturing Of Furniture' group declined by 0.2 per cent . (UNI)
