Mumbai, Aug 22: The BSE Sensex on Thursday tumbled down by 239.48 points to 36,820.89 in opening trade as selling was seen across the board. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too dropped by 63 points to 10,857. All the Nifty sectoral indices except Nifty FMCG were trading in the red. Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal indexes, down 6 per cent and 1.9 per cent, respectively, took the deepest cuts. The sectoral indices like Materials, Consumer Durable, Energy, Finance, Capital Goods and Bankex went in red.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index dipped 129 points, or 0.97 per cent, to 13,130, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index slid 183 points, or 1.48 per cent, to 12,207. The losers were Yes Bank by 6.96 pc toRs 60.85, VEDL by 2.93 pc to Rs 135.80, HDFC by 2.20 pc to Rs 2020.95, NTPC by 1.91 pc to Rs 115.70 and Bajaj Finance by 1.86 pc to Rs 3200. The gainers were Hind Unilever by 1.22 pc to Rs 1872.50, TCS by 0.63 pc to Rs 2199.60, Maruti Suzuki by 0.42 pc to Rs 6249 and ITC by 0.29 pc to Rs 242.30.UNI
